Asamer to use trains for grit transport

Asamer, the Austrian building materials company, is to use trains instead of trucks for transporting gravel from Roitham to Linz. The company says that this will replace 14,500 road trips a year and reduce carbon emissions by 1,920tonnes. The move required investments of €8million in Roitham. The containers will be transported in a cooperation with Rail Cargo Austria.

4700 Asamer, the Austrian building materials company, is to use trains instead of trucks for transporting gravel from Roitham to Linz.

The company says that this will replace 14,500 road trips a year and reduce carbon emissions by 1,920tonnes.

The move required investments of €8million in Roitham. The containers will be transported in a cooperation with 4701 Rail Cargo Austria.

Austrian cement manufacturing company Kirchdorfer is forming a new used tyre company named KIAS with Austrian construction materials maker Asamer.

A subsidiary of Asamer has been operating a used tyre processing plant in Ohlsdorf, Austria, since 2002. This is to be merged equally with Kirchdorfer to form the new joint venture company KIAS, which will be managed by Kirchdorfer on an operational level.

Austrian construction materials maker Asamer, whose main products are gravel and concrete, is to undergo restructuring in November 2013, whereby the majority of its foreign business could be outsourced into a type of bad bank, and parts of which will be successively utilised.

This would leave the Austrian business and some cement plants in former Yugoslavia.

Asamer of Austria to split up activities

The struggling Austrian construction materials company Asamer has confirmed that its liabilities amount to around €400 million.

The company's administrator plans to divide Asamer into two entities. The current family owners of Asamer will retain the core activities in Austria, along with the firm's plants in Slovakia and Bosnia Herzegovina. This amounts to a total turnover of €200 million compared to Asamer's current overall turnover of €452 million.

Asamer turnover expected to rise in 2013 after 2012 dip

Austrian construction materials firm Asamer is predicting 2013 turnover to rise to €510 million – contrasting a €21 million 2012 fall to €452 million. The company says the 2012 dip in turnover is partly due to cement production losses in Libya. However, Asamer says it has now regained full control over its Libyan activities. During 2013, Asamer will move its focus to mineral building supplies.
