Cement use set to increase

According to a report on global cement consumption in 160 countries from the International Cement Review, some 3.86 million tonnes of cement will be used in 2012. In 2008, cement use rose 2.4% to 2.83 million tonnes while 2009 saw a 5.9% increase to 2.99 million tonnes.

According to a report on global cement consumption in 160 countries from the International Cement Review, some 3.86 million tonnes of cement will be used in 2012. In 2008, cement use rose 2.4% to 2.83 million tonnes while 2009 saw a 5.9% increase to 2.99 million tonnes.

The report says that French construction material group 725 Lafarge led global sales in 2009 with turnover of €15.88 billion and sales in volume of 141.2 million tonnes. Swiss group 680 Holcim followed with turnover of €15.69 billion and sales in volume of 136.7 million tonnes.

In 2010, cement use rose 9.9% to 3.29 million tonnes.
