Lafarge plans Alenquer expansion

CVC is preparing a joint bid with a Singaporean state fund for assets including Britain's biggest cement-maker, Sky News reports.

Slovakian aggregates producer Alas has announced plans to raise gravel and sand production at its Okoc quarry by 50% to meet increased demand. The company has said that it will expand the extraction area by 35ha in autumn this year as part of its plans to ramp up production from 130,000tonnes per year to 200,000tonnes.

Lafarge’s flagship Pitt River Quarry in British Columbia, Canada, is part of a Lafarge North America network, the largest diversified supplier of construction materials in Canada and the United States.

The facility in Pitt Meadows, 50km west of Vancouver, a big market for the granite quarry, is near the banks of the Pitt River. It ships out 1.5-2 million tonnes of aggregate/year, loading river barges or trucks with the prized product.
