Spanish cement demand rises

Spain’s cement association Oficemen has reported that demand for cement in Spain increased by 2.73% in February this year – the first increase in monthly demand since October 2007. Nonetheless, the organisation has said that this is not a sign of recovery but more a of a reflection of the low level of demand in February 2010 due to poor weather. Oficement has said that without the impact of the weather on demand last year, the level of demand in February 2011 would show a 10% decrease.

Spain’s cement association 4303 Oficemen has reported that demand for cement in Spain increased by 2.73% in February this year – the first increase in monthly demand since October 2007.

Spanish cement consumption falls

According to Oficemen (Spanish Association of Cement Producers) 7.2 million tonnes of cement were consumed in Spain in the first half of 2012. This represents a decrease of 34.7% in comparison to the same period in 2011. Oficemen also noted that exports have increased by 40% in comparison to the first half of 2011, although cement production fell by 28% in the first six months of 2012.

Spanish consumption of cement down to 1966 level

Spanish cement use up 5% in October 2014

Cement consumption in Spain grew by an encouraging 5% in October 2014, compared with the year-ago period, to reach 1.037 million tonnes. Spanish cement demand at 1970s comparable low, says Oficemen

The Spanish association of cement producers, Oficemen, said national cement consumption decreased by 37.2% in May 2012, compared to the same month of 2011, to 1.26million tonnes..Present cement consumption levels are, stressed Oficemen, mirroring consumption lows of the 1970's. Demand for cement during the first five months of 2012 decreased by 34.6% to 5.98million tonnes, at a daily consumption average of 57,594tonnes.

Drop in Spanish demand for cement

Oficemen said the fall to 19million tonnes was likely to be followed by a December 2011 demand of 20.2million tonnes, down 17% on December 2010. Demand will continue to drop in 2012, claims Oficemen, as a result of the low levels of public work projects and lack of new residential property projects. Over the last four years, cement demand has dropped by 64% and it is expected to go down by 8%-12% in 2012.
