Strabag has strengthened its aggregates supply chain with the acquisition of the Germany-based building materials company Gaul. Gaul is the market leader in crushed stone, gravel, sand, asphalt and concrete in the areas of Frankfurt and Wiesbaden in Germany and has 10 sand and gravel pits and two quarries.

Thomas Concrete Group acquires sand and gravel operation in Germany

Thomas Concrete Group has acquired a sand and gravel pit operation in Vierhusen, Schleswig-Holstein, as it continues to grow in Germany and secure the supply of raw material for its production of ready-mixed concrete.

The operation was acquired from Kies- und Schotterwerk Kreuzfeld & Co on 14th August 2019. The existing subsidiary to Thomas Beton in Germany, KGS Kiesgewinnungs Sternberg, has since been renamed ‘Thomas Sand und Kies’ and will incorporate the Vierhusen site.

Strabag in bid for Kieleckie

Austria-based Strabag and Polish quarrying business Dolnoslaskie Surowce Skalne are reported to be among the nine companies bidding to buy Dolnoslaskie Surowce Skalne from the government. The Polish Treasury has approved the bidders and due diligence of the quarry operator based in south eastern Poland is now underway. Dolnoslaskie Surowce Skalne mainly quarries aggregates for the road construction market.
