Following a successful trial at its Leeds plant in West Yorkshire, the company is rolling out the service at seven further sites. The rapid-turnaround Collect & Go service is aimed at local contractors who want to drop in at the plant first thing in the morning, collect a small load and get back to work quickly without having to wait.
It offers customers collecting up to five tonnes of standard asphalt products such as a binder or dense surface course a priority time slot between 6am and 9am.
On-site shops have also been created to sell the essentials required to lay the materials, including spades, rakes, sealants and wheelbarrows. New pedestrian walkways have been created, and signage improved at each of the eight sites to ensure customer safety. The correct PPE must be worn at all times, and social distancing measures are in place following government Covid-19 advice.
“We have been delighted with the results from the Leeds trial,” said Gareth Day, Hanson UK asphalt managing director. “Feedback from customers has also been very positive, in terms of both the quality of product and service.”
In addition to Hanson’s Leeds plant, Collect & Go is now available at the company’s Bradford, Criggion (mid-Wales), Dagenham, Bulls Lodge (Essex), Allington (Kent), Hingston Down (Cornwall) and Southampton plants. Payment can be made on account or by card at the time of ordering.
