Frontier Stone quarry challenges Town of Shelby following state approval for new project

October 16, 2017

Following an approval from the state, Frontier Stone quarry has filed an Article 78 challenging the way the town of Shelby has done business. The decision follows a challenge in which the town stopped the company’s aim to construct a stone pit near the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, according to a report by The Daily News Online.

The proposed quarry project appeared in jeopardy when the town of Shelby passed Local Law No. 3 of 2017 creating a Wildlife Refuge Protection Overlay District. The district adds extra regulations to the zoning map including stopping “improper development.”
