894 Breedon Group’s plans to extend a Lincolnshire, central England quarry by 120 acres in a bid to gain access to 1.7 million tonnes of limestone has been recommended for approval.

A proposal for South Witham Quarry submitted to Lincolnshire County Council said operations would take between eight and 11 years to complete at the site, situated on the Lincolnshire-Rutland border.

The council was due to vote on the application at a planning committee meeting today (31 July 2017).

If approved, the site would be worked on and restored in six phases and would see around 150,000 to 200,000 tonnes of limestone exported every year.

Breedon, headquartered in Breedon on the Hill, Derbyshire, has said that a green light for its quarry extension application would secure jobs at South Witham Quarry for the next 20 years.
