The Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) has launched Phase 1 of its inquiry into the proposed Breedon Group acquisition of certain CEMEX UK assets

The CMA is considering whether it is or may be the case that the £178 million deal will result in a merger that results in a substantial lessening of competition in the British building materials market.

The CMA has until 26 August 2020 to decide on whether to refer the merger for a Phase 2 investigation.

CEMEX’s UK assets encompass approximately 100 active operations across six divisions located in Scotland, Wales, North-East England, Norfolk, the East Midlands, and Yorkshire.
