5695 Holcim Espana is overhauling its organisational and industrial structure after seeing sales plummet by 63% (56million tonnes to 20.2million tonnes) between 2007 and 2011.

In the first four months of 2012, sales have dropped a further 40%. The firm said it now plans to:

  • Rationalise its commercial organisation under a single management body which will sell all the firm's products in the different customer markets
  • Simplify its corporate structure by reducing the number of members on its board and focusing administrative tasks in a single services centre close to Madrid
  • Adapt industrial cement production capacity to national market demand and export possibilities (which means furnace stoppages at Yeles and a complete stop to production in Lorca
  • Reduce activities for its other lines of construction materials (mortar, aggregates and concrete), by closing some facilities.

Holcim España’s new structure will have a staff of 680.
