A Tarmac shift manager rescued a stranded motorist after the car she was driving in got stuck in flood water near to Mountsorrel quarry in Leicestershire, central England.

Scott Green, who works at the Tarmac-owned quarry, said he saw the vehicle attempting to drive through the water under the A6 in Quorn, before he dropped his daughter off at school.

Construction materials supplier Aggregate Industries has acquired Leicestershire, UK-based independent readymix concrete provider Maxi Readymix Concrete.

Aggregate Industries says the acquisition is in line with its Strategy 2022 - “Building for Growth” and will allow the company to strengthen its market position within a region of the UK that offers growth opportunities and further develop its strong customer focus. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Metso has completed its purchase of Canadian mobile crushing and screening equipment manufacturer McCloskey.

The acquisition completed on October 1 and Finland-based Metso says will expand its offering in the aggregates industry globally and strengthen its customer reach, especially to the general contractor segment.

JCB chairman Lord Bamford has officially opened the new headquarters for its German operations.

The off-highway equipment giant says that Germany is one of its most important European businesses. It adds that the new 12 acre site in Colgone cost £50mn and is one of the biggest investments in its history.
