India-based Bhavya Cements' proposal to build a US$60.02 million (INR 3.65 billion) cement grinding unit has been green lighted by the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority. The Dhenkanal district administration is looking for a suitable site for the facility following an approach by Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development (Idco). The planned three million tonne/year mill is likely to be set up on a 60-acre plot.

A 1.4% interest in Nigerian cement giant Dangote Cement has been acquired for US$300 million by UAE-based sovereign fund Investment Corp of Dubai (ICD), according to a spokesman for the African company. ICD is said to have purchased 243 million Dangote Cement shares that were priced at US$ 1.23 (NGN 200) per share. By market capitalisation, Dangote Cement is Nigeria’s largest firm.

The US$190.23 million (NGN 30.95 billion) deal is part of the ongoing merger of Lafarge Group’s South African and Nigerian assets. The deal was executed as an off-market trade. The seller of the Ashaka Cement shares are Lafarge Nigeria (United Kingdom).

PPC Zimbabwe said it will become the leading cement producer in Zimbabwe by constructing a 100tonne/hour manufacturing plant in the country’s capital, Harare. The ambitious company recently revealed it had secured approval for the project's Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). According to PPC, the US$80 million plant is scheduled for completion by March 2016.

Cemex will be able to buy Holcim’s Spanish assets after the deal was approved by the European Commission, marking a key step towards the earmarked US$50 billion creation of Lafarge-Holcim.

AsiaOne Business website writes that the merger, with Holcim acquiring Lafarge's entire issued share capital, will result in Holcim being renamed LafargeHolcim.

JCB Germany has announced its biggest single investment ever as the company prepares to celebrate 50 years of trading in the vital market.
