According to the Moroccan housing ministry, cement consumption grew close to 8% in September 2013.

However, cement sales were down 8.2% to 11.3 million tonnes over the ten months to the end of September.

Professionals are concerned about the Eid al-Adha religious holiday in October, which will see many projects halted. Traditionally, builders stop work for between 10-15 days.

The Moroccan association of cement producers (APC) forecasts a drop of 5-10% in cement consumption for 2013 as a whole although cement producers were counting on the package dedicated to middle class housing to see recovery in the market. No projects have emerged as no agreement between the government and property developers was reached.

In future, the biggest challenge for construction material professionals will be to stop the increase in taxes in the sector.
