The Scottish Government has decided to call in plans to extend Hyndford Quarry in New Lanark, an area which UNESCO named as a World Heritage Site in 2001.
The plans of Cemex have already been approved by South Lanarkshire Council but have been controversial. The extended quarry would be close to the Falls of Clyde and the 19th century model village at New Lanark.
The Government will now examine the plans and decide whether or not they can go ahead.
