The US$500,000 raised by a 643 Cemex global internal fundraising campaign in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines is now being used to launch reconstruction projects is some of the country’s most affected areas.

“We feel we can touch the lives of people who really need help; not only covering their basic needs, but also providing them with support for the future. Cemex is committed to the Philippines. We are here, and we are here for the long haul. We want to return to our communities all of the positive things they give us,” said Pedro Palomino, president, Cemex in the Philippines.

To ensure Cemex’s contribution will efficiently reach those who need it most, the company is working together with governmental and non-governmental partners to channel the funds raised through the Cemex Philippines Foundation’s Build Unity programme, focusing on high-priority rebuilding projects in Northern Cebu including the construction of 88 new homes for families in the most affected areas; the rebuilding and renovation of damaged schools; the development of a new Community Health Centre; the donation of a boat ambulance; the creation of a community training facility; and the construction of cement sculptures and provision of driftwood figures to attract marine life back to the coasts of Northern Cebu.
