Wider use of smartphones has added a new opportunity for equipment manufacturers to assist customers and over the last few months several have launched applications to improve services.

460 Sandvik has unveiled a new smartphone application that can be used on both iPhone and Android handset, which the company claims improves customer service. "Our aim is to be able to serve our client's needs regardless of location, time zone or challenge. To provide a solution to any problem that might occur is an important competitive tool," said Sandvik Mining and Construction president Lars Josefsson.

The company said that the smartphone application makes it possible, both for Sandvik and its clients, to interact even more efficiently.

459 Rockmore International is also aiming to improve customer access to its products and parts with the launch of a new iPad application for its full catalogue of rock drilling tools and accessories.

"We are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to provide service to our customers," said Rockmore executive vice president Pejman Eghdami. "This new Rockmore app for iPad provides immediate access to in-depth product information and specifications." The app - available from iTunes - provides immediate access to over 100 pages of detailed information about Rockmore products, including threaded and tapered drill bits, DTH bits and hammers, extension and tunnelling rods, integral and tapered rods, shank adapters and other drill tool accessories.

447 Powerscreen has also unveiled an application for the iPhone, iPad or iTouch, which the company has said provides a new way for customers to access information. "Today people expect instant access to information and this innovative development from Powerscreen will help our customers get the information they need," said Powerscreen global sales and marketing director Patrick Brian.
