Vietnam Cement demand reaches 24mn tonnes
Data from the Department of Building Materials of Vietnam showed that demand for cement and clinkers reached 24 million tonnes as of year-to-date (up by 15% year-on-year), while cement production for 2016 is projected to reach a range of 75 million to 77 million tonnes.
The department noted that cement prices remain stable despite the demand surge, which is attributed to the recovery of the property market.

Indocement to appeal decision to revoke permit
Indonesian cement company Indocement Tunggal Prakasa (Indocement) plans to appeal the decision by the Semarang Administrative Court revoking its permit to develop a cement plant in Pati, Central Java.
The appeal will be submitted at the Surabaya High Court.
The public protested against the construction of the cement plant for fear of environmental damages including difficulty in accessing clean water as well as danger of flood.

Russia’s Pervaya Nerudnaya Kompaniya (PNK) will independently mine crushed stone at the Gavrilovo crushed stone quarry in the Leningrad region.
In the last ten years, the facility has been leased and developed by Semiozerskoe Karyeroupravlenie of the Technostrom group (TSM Group).
It is reported that after PNK refused to extend the leasing agreement, Technostrom's plant that accounted for some 9-17% of the regional crushed stone market, was closed.

France: The Daniel group acquiring three Lafarge sites
The Daniel group is acquiring three Lafarge sites in south-western France.
The Baudreix-Mirepeix site comprises an alluvial gravel quarry and a concrete plant. The quarry produces 200,000tonnes of aggregates/year.
At Louvie-Juzon, an open pit limestone quarry, 350,000tonnes of aggregates/year areproduced, while the third acquisition targets a concrete plant.
These purchases add to the offer of the construction material specialist, which aims to broaden its target clientele.

Portugal/Algeria: Sales of cement increase in 2015
According to a study of Informa D&B, the sales of cement in the Portugal rose in 2015 by 6.3% to 2.6 million tonnes, and in value sales in Portugal rose by €10 million to €220 million, while exports stood at €147 million.
Cement was mainly shipped to North Africa and African Portuguese speaking countries and in total 58% of the cement exported by Portugal in 2015 was shipped to Algeria.
Holcim Indonesia reports cement sales growth of 41%
Gary Schutz, the president of Holcim Indonesia, is reported as saying that the cement company has reported cement sales of 2.67 million tonnes in the first quarter of 2016, up 41% from a year ago.
Sales grew by 24% to IDR 2.45 trillion (€161.95 million/US$184.38 million).
National demand for cement grew by 4% during the quarter.
The company is projecting that cement sales will grow by 5% in 2016 to 63 million tonnes/year.

UltraTech Cement to raise investeor limit to 30%
In its regulatory filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) of India, UltraTech Cement has announced that it has secured permission from its board to raise its Registered Foreign Portfolio Investor (RFPI) limit from 24% to 30%.
The increase in the limit by the local company is subject to approval from board members at the yearly general meeting scheduled for July 2016.
Taiwan’s Goldsun Group to complete Gravel storage facility by August
In August 2016, a gravel storage facility owned by Goldsun Group is expected to be completed and operational.
Located in Port of Taipei, the storage facility is designed with a storage capacity of up to 135,000tonnes.
It has eight freight exits, which allow eight gravel trucks to transport gravel.
The environment of the storage facility is clean, and its transport efficiency is high.
The new storage facility will help increase productivity, said the Goldsun Group.

The aggregates sector in Catalonia, Spain, has reported turnover of €100 million in 2015, after increasing production 2% on a year earlier to 22 million tonnes.

Morocco: Lafarge diversifies its cement bags offer
Lafarge is relying on its diversification strategy in order to boost its revenue in Morocco.
It is now said to offer five different families of products as part of its range of cement bags: Dwam, L' billioni, Swari, Prefa and Martoub. Lafarge is focusing its marketing strategy on its flagship Dwam 55 product, a grey cement for works foundations, especially in coastal areas.

Pakistan: Cement capacity utilisation at 95%
Cement manufacturing in Pakistan is running at 95% capacity utilisation as of March 2016 due to strong import growth, says Muhammad Ali Tabba, chairman of the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA).
Cement makers have been increasing capacity regularly, with an additional 26,000tonnes/day to become available once DG Khan Cement, Lucky Cement, Cherat Cement Company, and Attock Cement complete their expansions.
