Dangote cement plant work begins
China's Sinoma International Engineering has started work on Nigeria-based Dangote Group's cement plant in Nigeria's Edo state.
The deal is valued at US$278 million (€246.38 million).
Four, 6,000tonne/day production lines will be set up under the project.
New Lease of Life Given to WCL Quarries’ Machines
Two of UK-based WCL Quarries’ machines have been given another 2,500 hours of undercarriage life, following a Finning repair and refurb.
The Cat D6T dozer runs at the Griff Quarry in county Warwickshire, while the D6R dozer is used at the Ketley site. The machines are essential to WCL Quarries’ operations and are used to fill in void spaces with inert materials, carry out compaction and leveling duties, as well as to support mixed recycling procedures.

Saudi Aramco picks SNC-Lavalin for asphalt expansion
Saudi Aramco (Saudi Arabian Oil Company) has awarded an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract to Canada-based SNC-Lavalin for the asphalt production expansion project at the Ras Tanura refinery.
Local subsidiary Saudi Arabian Kentz will handle the 18-month contract execution, which includes comprehensive engineering and detailed design, procurement, installation, construction and commissioning.

Cemex increases Q1 2016 sales by 3% to US$3.2 billion
Mexican cement giant Cemex has posted sales of US$3.2 billion for Q1 2016, an increase of 3% on a like-for-like basis compared to the same quarter of 2015.
The company’s welcome sales rise was said to be due to higher prices of its products, in local currency terms, in most of its operations, as well as higher sales volumes in the US and Europe and AME&A regions.

Poland predicts cement sales growth
It is predicted that Poland's cement sales will reach 16 million tonnes in 2016, which will represent a 4-5% increase in comparison to 2015.
In 2017, the sales will grow further by 500,000tonnes owing to new road and rail investments implemented in the country.
However, it is emphasised that increased sales will not necessarily mean that the production of cement will also grow, and according to some scenarios, it might even drop. This is because exports of cement are predicted to increase.

South Africa’s cement sales rise by 7.7% in 2015
Total sales of cement in South Africa increased by 7.7% year-on-year (y-o-y) to 13 million tonnes in 2015 due to strong demand from the construction industry, according to PPC, a South African cement producer.
The total usage of cement including imports went up by 3.1% y-o-y to 13.8 million tonnes in 2015 and cement sales grew the fastest in the first quarter of 2015 at 15.6% y-o-y.

UK: Ecocem opens GBP 2 million bulk import terminal
Ecocem has opened its first bulk import terminal in the UK.
The Irish company partnered with Peel Ports to open the terminal at Runcorn Docks on the Manchester Ship Canal, north-west England.
Ecocem invested £2 million (€2.5 million) in the project.
A further £2 million has been set aside to fund an increase in capacity.
Ecocem produces low-carbon cement at a plant at Dublin Port, Ireland.
Russia sells over 25 million tons of rock/aggregates in Q1
The volume of supply of rock and aggregate materials on the Russian domestic market exceeded 25.68 million tonnes in the first quarter of 2016.
Of these 79% accounted for high-endurance rocks (30.8%, granite; 23.9%, gabbro; 3%, diabase); 9.2% for limestone; 6% for gravel, and 2.5% for sandstone.

Tanzania Portland Cement Company (TPCC) achieved a 3% year-on-year net profit rise in 2015 to TZS 56.2 billion (US$ 25.76 million). The Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN) has reported a healthy NGN 13.04 billion (US$65.49 million) turnover for 2015. Astec holds groundbreaking ceremony for new manufacturing bay
US-based Astec Inc, an Astec Industries company, celebrated the beginning of the construction of a new manufacturing bay with a groundbreaking ceremony at the Astec manufacturing facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The 2,302m² addition, which is designed for manufacturing equipment used for Astec wood pellet plants and asphalt mixing plants, is expected to create 40-50 new jobs, with around 30 of those jobs starting when the bay begins operating in September 2016.
