Holcim Philippines CEO tips cement market growth in 2016

Holcim Philippines' CEO Eduardo A Sahagun has tipped the domestic cement market’s robust performance to continue in 2016, with sales growth of up to 8%. The nation’s private sector's continuing construction activities and the Philippines government's higher infrastructure spending will help drive the market. The government has set a public works budget of around PHP 800 billion (US$17.35 billion) for 2016. Taiwan: Taiwan Cement sales down 20.8% year-on-year in 2015

Taiwanese cement producer Taiwan Cement Corp saw its 2015 year-on-year sales fall 20.8% to TWD 93.68 billion (US$2.89 billion), while the company’s net income dropped by 46.7% to TWD 5.78 billion ($178.67 million).

During October-December 2015, revenue and net income of the firm fell by 17% and 31.3% to TWD 24.6 billion ($760.45 million) and TWD 1.78 billion ($55.02 million) respectively, as compared to October-December 2014.

Italian cement firm Buzzi start €500mn bond issuance road show

Buzzi Unicem, the Italian cement manufacturer, has commissioned Citi, BNP Paribas and Banca Imi banks to start a road show for the potential issuance of a €500 million bond. Having been approved by the company's Board on 13 April 2016, the bond insurance aims to refinance some of the group's expiring credit lines, diversifying the sourcing of its funds and extending the average duration of its debt. President urged to meet protestors amid Indonesia cement plant standoff

A farmer from Indonesia’s Kendeng Mountain Community Care Network has reportedly asked to meet with the country’s president, Joko Widodo, regarding the damages to the Mountain due to the proposed construction of a cement plant in Kendeng, Rembang in Central Java. Joko Prianto is among those at the forefront of the protest against the development of the cement plant by Semen Indonesia. Nine protestors staged demonstration in front of the presidential palace on 13 April by cementing their legs.

Competition authority halts sale of Lafarge’s India assets

India’s competition regulator in India, Compat, has stopped the sale of Lafarge’s India assets, reports Indian Express.

The Competition Appellate Tribunal (Compat) interim order puts on ice the sale of the assets, which a slew of private equity firms and cement manufacturers have put bids in for or expressed strong interest in doing so. Among very interested parties are cement manufacturers and private equity firms including CRH group, Heidelberg Cement, Blackstone, and Aion Capital.

Metso’s German customer Karl-Werner Bierbrauer received the company’s 15th Lokotrack mobile crushing plant from Metso during bauma 2016 in Munich.

Exhibitors talk of record demand at bauma 2016

Many exhibitors at bauma 2016 are said to have enjoyed record orders – with around 580,000 visitors from 200 countries having attended the world’s biggest construction equipment trade fair in Munich, Germany.

Bernd Holz takes the helm at CECE

The new president of CECE (the Committee for European Construction Equipment) recently took up his tenure, succeeding Eric Lepine of Caterpillar France who served as president in 2014 and 2015.
