Wika Beton realises contracts of IDR 2.7tn in three months
Fery Hendriyanto from Wijaya Karya Beton (Wika Beton) said that the Indonesian pre-cast concrete producer has realised contracts valued at some IDR 2.7 trillion (€179.74 million/US$203.71 million) in the first-quarter of 2016.
Out of the figure, IDR 1.7 trillion was carry over contracts from 2015.
For 2016, the company is targeting new contracts valued at IDR 4 trillion.

Holcim Indonesia’s mortar products
Juhans Suryantan from Holcim Indonesia said that the cement company has launched its mortar products which comes in three variants: Holcim Acian, Holcim Plesteran and Holcim Pasangan.
In the early stages, the products are available only in Jakarta and its surrounding areas.
The products have been mixed with cement and sand, making it efficient in terms of time and cost.
China: Allied Cement's 2015 revenue drops 36.5%
In 2015, China-based Allied Cement Holdings’ revenue fell by 36.5% year-on-year to HKD 465.7 million (€53.76 million/US$60.03 million).
The cement and clinker producer incurred a loss of HKD 34.24 million, which translates into a loss per share of HKD 0.69.
Allied Cement's sales of clinker and cement fell by 17.4% to 2 million tonnes during this period.

India’s UltraTech to acquire Jaypee cement plants
UltraTech Cement in India has agreed to buy 21.2 million tonnes/year of cement capacity from Jaiprakash Associates (flagship of the Jaypee Group) for INR 159 billion (€2.13 billion US$2.38 billion).
The deal covers cement plants in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, but not the 1.2 million tonnes/year plant in Karnataka originally considered. This takes about INR 6 billion off the previously estimated transaction size.

Indonesia’s SI aims to be among top bulk cement suppliers
A director of Semen Indonesia (SI), is reported as saying that in three years the state cement producer is aiming to be the second or third top supplier of bulk cement in the country.
Presently, the company has the fifth largest market share in the bulk cement market via its unit Varia Usaha Beton.
SI paid IDR 51 billion (€3.4 million/US$3.85 million) to acquire Varia Beton, which produces ready mixed bulk cement for the domestic market.

Ethiopia's Derba Cement plans $300 million expansion
Ethiopia-based Derba Cement is planning to invest US$300 million (€268.68 million) for expansion.

Dutch concrete production company Declercq Stortbeton has ordered 19 new Mercedes-Benz trucks.
The order concerns 15 Arocs 2043 AS 4x4 trucks; one Arocs 3243 LB truck; an Arocs 3336 K 6x4 truck; an Arocs 3243 K 8x4 truck, and an Actros 1842 LS 4x2 truck.
The new trucks will be linked to other trailers to transport construction materials.

French cement group Vicat has launched a project called Odyssée, devoted to the protection of pollenators and wild bees.

Due to revenue recognition for its property development division, the revenue of Malaysia-based Quality Concrete Holdings in its fourth-quarter, which ended in January 2016, rose year-on-year by 42.1% from MYR 51.10 million (€11.35 million/US$12.67 million) to MYR 72.6 million.

Algerian construction material imports have fallen by 29.08% in value to US$252.76 million (€226.38 million) in January-February 2016 compared to the same 2015 period, while they receded by 7.48% in volume to 1.31 million tonnes.
Iron and steel imports have sunk by 50.24% in value to US$93 million and by 32.94% in volume to 244,438tonnes.

Senegal’s cement output up 17.3% in January
According to data provided by Senegal's Directorate of Forecasts and Economic Studies (DPEE), the nation's cement output climbed by 17.3% year-on-year to 531,200tonnes in January 2016.
Meanwhile, the local cement sales in the country increased by 15.1% to 334,300tonnes, higher than the 290,600tonnes sold in the country in January 2015.
Further, export sales of cement leapt by 22.8% to 218,600tonnes, higher than January 2015's export sales of 178,000tonnes.

Peter Nelson has been named as the new interim chairman of South Africa-based cement and lime manufacturer PPC.
Nelson was previously PPC's independent non-executive director and was appointed to this position in January 2016.
Nelson's appointment as the company's new interim chairman follows the departure of former chairman Bheki Sibiya who retired from his chairmanship at the end of January 2016.

Tajikistan company Ghayue Cement and China's Huaxin Cement have launched the Huaxin Ghayue-Sughd Cement plant in the Sughd region of Tajikistan.
The investments in the project totalled TJS 1 billion (€113.81 million/US$127.08 million).

In South Korea Pine Tree Investment Management and Eugene Group have failed a reported hostile takeover of conglomerate Tongyang.
The two companies have failed to secure the required number of shares for a special resolution at the general shareholders' meeting of Tongyang.
The conglomerate's businesses include asset management, life insurance and cement.
During the meeting, the two companies are said to have proposed to increase the number of board members in Tongyang from ten at present.
