Breedon Aggregates note growth concerns despite record company results in 2015
Breedon Aggregates has posted record results for 2015, but senior company figures say an “exciting new era” for the company in 2016 is accompanied by concern that the EU referendum could have an adverse effect on growth, with “increasing concern” also apparent over global growth being hit by the Chinese economy.
A leading UK-based producer of aggregates, asphalt and ready-mixed concrete for builders, Breedon said its pre-tax profits in the year to December 31 rose 46.4% to £31.3 million (€40.4 million) w
Volvo CE claims champion fuel efficiency for EC220E excavator
Volvo Construction Equipment claims rigorous side-by-side comparison tests have confirmed customer feedback that the Volvo EC220E excavator offers the best fuel efficiency and operator comfort in its weight class – better even than a competitor hybrid.
Since the launch of the Volvo EC220E in February 2015, Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) says it has received widespread praise from customers about the excavator’s low fuel consumption and comfortable cab. Many customers have, says Volvo CE, even
Marini launches XPRESS 2500 asphalt plant
Road constructors, facing a lack of new projects in home markets, have shown an increasing tendency to take part in tenders for new roadbuilding worldwide. For this reason there has been the preference to use easily transportable, tyre-mounted plants, capable of fitting into the most difficult of logistic situations, says Marini, which has introduced the new XPRESS 2500.
The batch plant with a production rate up to 200tonnes/hour, is tyre-mounted for easy transfer, and within the road transport limits (a
New headquarters for Controls
Italian testing equipment company Controls has moved its headquarters after 30 years at its historic base at Cernusco sul Naviglio, Milan, which can no longer meet the growing productive needs of the company. The company, which has seven branches and more than 4,000 products for the construction industry in three business areas, has a new plant in Liscate, a small town in a logistically strategic position, just 17km from the centre of Milan and at the intersection of two major new motorway networks. Among i
Top grade for Metso’s jaw platform
Metso has developed a new maintenance platform that increases safety when changing wear parts in jaw crushers. It is available on all Metso C Series jaw crushers.
The platforms consist of hand rails which are also used for lifting the platform, sturdy work platforms and related control mechanisms, enabling them to be precisely placed at the desired height of the jaw opening.
The platform, constructed of aluminium, is said to be easy enough for one person to move.
“With a small investment, Metso’s

Caterpillar says that developing relationships with a broad variety of
Hercules’ new HT182C heavy-duty trommel
Stelex Construction Equipment, supplier of the original Hercules range of heavy duty trommels, has launched the new HT182C heavy-duty trommel as part of its standard product range.
The HT182C uses a chain drive system for the barrel rotation in place of the standard live drive system that was introduced in 2005.
The live drive system has been a huge success and extremely reliable but the reduced cost of the chain drive will hopefully make it an attractive alternative to customers on a tighter budget
Sandvik’s geoSURE turns drill rig into analyser
Sandvik Construction is adding geoSURE, a rig-integrated, high precision, online rock mass analysis and visualisation system, to its existing offering for tunnelling process optimisation.
The new option is fully integrated to the iSURE tunnelling project management software, providing rock mass information and a view inside the drilled rock.
Designed to be used with Sandvik underground construction drills rigs, geoSURE delivers real-time onboard analysis of the rock mass, which is said to provide many
Aggregates Institute host first Manufactured Sand workshop in UK
Aggregates Institute’s Manufactured Sand workshop
Aggregates Institute’s forthcoming workshop on manufactured sand is ideal for forward-thinking, innovative quarry operators and contractors. Below, workshop presenters Barry Hudson and Hugo Pettingell discuss its key content.
There is natural sand, there is crusher dust, and in-between there is ‘manufactured sand’ of varying, but almost always dire, effectiveness. Concrete producers want the first, aggregate producers want to dispose of large quantitie
Finsveen Maskin boosts productivity with Metso Lokotrack LT220D
In addition to increased capacity and big fuel savings, Norwegian crushing contractor Finsveen Maskin appreciates the easy transportability of Metso’s Lokotrack LT220D cone plant.
The revolutionary two-in-one crushing and screening plant has enjoyed worldwide sales success since its Las Vegas, US launch in early 2014. Hycontrol’s bitumen measuring and overfill protection system for Aggregate Industries
Level measuring specialists Hycontrol have designed and installed a multi-point bitumen level measuring and overfill protection system for Aggregate Industries at their Express Asphalt plant at Botley, near Southampton, England.
The system, utilising microwave and capacitive technologies, has been fitted to four 36.5tonne tanks containing hot bitumen, replacing the existing ‘cat and mouse’ level system. This out-of-date mechanical arrangement, based on pulleys and counterweights, was becoming increasingl
Challenges to meet in a maturing aggregate market
Hugo Pettingell, of the Aggregates Institute, discusses how savvy use of equipment can help quarrying professionals cater for changing aggregate market demand.
The market for traditional quarry products in Western Europe has changed significantly over the last couple of decades, a trend that is set to continue with the decline of large infrastructure projects. A contributory factor is the more frequent use of recycled products for non-critical purposes, which means that the once-obligatory supply of fill
