US construction equipment exports down 19% in 2015
Exports of US-made construction equipment were down 19% in 2015 compared to the previous year for a total $13.9 billion shipped worldwide. All world regions experienced declines, led by Africa and South America, according to the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), citing US Department of Commerce data it uses in global market reports for members.

Only four Vietnamese cement makers install WHGG systems
According to the Vietnam Cement Association, only four cement producers managed to install waste heat gas generation (WHGG) systems at their plants by end of 2015 as instructed by the government.
These four companies are Cong Thanh, Ha Tien, Chinfon and Holcim, while those said to have failed to comply with the instruction include Nghi Son Cement, Luks Cement Vietnam and Phuc Son Cement.

Lionhead Group to sell Lionhead Cement
Taiyuan Lionhead Group plans to sell 52.77 million shares or a 22.94% shareholding in Taiyuan Lionhead Cement.
Lionhead Group will cease to hold any shares in Lionhead Cement upon completion of the disposal.
The announcement was made by Lionhead Cement, a China-based maker of aluminate cement, portland cement and clinker and concrete.
Côte d'Ivoire: Cimaf doubles cement production
Moroccan cement company Cimaf has inaugurated its second grinding line on its Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, site.
The new unit, which required a MAD 270 million (€25.04 million US$27.37 million) investment, should enable Cimaf to double production to 1 million tonnes/year, with the aim of covering all Ivorian needs.
The 2016 installed capacity is 4.2 million tonnes, while provisional demand stands at 3.4 million tonnes.
Capacity is expected to exceed 6.2 million tonnes in 2017.
Philippines: PHP 2 billion to be invested by Holcim in 2016
In 2016, PHP 2 billion (€38.51 million/US$42.1 million) has been committed by Holcim Philippines to raise its cement capacity in the country.
In 2015, 205 million bags of cement were offloaded by the company, an increase of 11% from 185 million bags offloaded a year ago.
According to Eduardo A Sahagun, country CEO and president of the company, the PHP 2 billion will be used to increase annual cement capacity from 8 million tonnes to 10 million tonnes by the end of 2016.
Russian import licence for Ukraine company
Kirovogradgranit has become the first of the Ukrainian companies to received a licence to import its products to Russia. The first batch of 902tonnes of crushed stone from Novopavlovsk Granite Quarry has been sent to the Belgorod-based company Polikom-Stroyservis (Central Federal District). The Ministry of Construction has received applications from another five Ukrainian manufacturers of non-metallic materials.
CRH’s 2015 pre-tax profits rise 36% to €1.03bn
Irish building materials giant CRH saw its pre-tax profits rise a healthy 36% to €1.03 billion last year.
The company said its US sales had benefitted from a weaker euro, and they expect the favourable exchange rates that helped boost its 2015 profits to continue this year.
CRH’s American businesses, which are mainly focused on the US, contributed €917 million to its €1.27 billion operating profits in 2015.

CRH announces non-executive board appointment
CRH has co-opted to its board William J. Teuber Jr as a non-executive director. The 64-year-old US citizen is the vice chairman at EMC Corporation, a global leader in enabling businesses and service providers to transform their operations and deliver IT as a service.

MPA actively supporting new UK Drowning Prevention Strategy
The Mineral Products Association (MPA) says it is committed to supporting the new UK Drowning Prevention Strategy which was launched on 29 February by Robert Goodwill MP, Minister of State for Transport.
About 400 people accidently drown each year, with almost two thirds of these fatalities occurring in inland waters such as canals and rivers, lakes, quarries and reservoirs. The new Strategy, published by the National Water Safety Forum, aims to achieve a 50% reduction in drowning by 2026.

Semen Indonesia sees 18.7% fall in net income
In 2015, the net profit of state-run cement manufacturer Semen Indonesia fell by 18.7% to IDR 4.52 trillion (€301.62 million/US$335.76 million) from IDR 5.56 trillion in 2014.
In the period between July 2015 and September 2015, its net income dipped by 21.6%.
Also, in 2015, its overall revenue fell slightly from IDR 26.99 trillion in 2014 to IDR 26.95 trillion due to slow demand.

The search for building material deposits will be launched on Sakhalin Island (Far East) in 2016.
Geologists have specified about 12 prospective sites with the predicted resources of at least 16 million m³ of building stone and 2 million m³of sand and rock.
Pakistan’s cement market posts growth
The cement market of Pakistan grew 30.4% year-on-year to PKR 16.14 billion (€140.92 million/US$154.04 million) during October-December 2015, while revenues rose 12% and margins stood at 41%.
As for July-December 2015, the industry grew 32.2% from PKR 20.91 billion to PKR 27.65 billion, while revenues increased 7.5% as local dispatches rose 16.3% despite the export volume declining 25.9%.
Also, margins of the industry in the six-month period stood at 41%, while cost of goods sold fell from PKR 3,682/
Dangote Cement wins ACCI's top company award
Dangote Cement has received the Most Outstanding Company of the Year award commissioned by the Abuja Chamber of Commerce Industry (ACCI), Nigeria.
The award is given in recognition to the company's contribution to the Nigerian economy by means of producing cement at an annual capacity of 29.25 million tonnes.
The company has also received recognition by the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture (KADCCIMA) for its job creation initiatives.
