Xylem expands pump rental capabilities across Europe and South Africa

Xylem, a leading global water technology company, is expanding its pump rental and service portfolio across Europe and South Africa through a multi-million euro investment.

Xylem says the expansion initiative will enable it to better meet the market demand from construction, industry, municipal and mining customers across both regions. Italian marble growth continues in the USA

The third -quarter of 2015 saw Italian natural stone products continue growing on the US market.

This is confirmed by the latest Istat export data analysed by the Marmomacc Observatory.

From January to September, 2015, exports to the USA of hewn, shaped and finished natural stones posted turnover of €336 million (US$364million), up by 29.4% over the same period in 2014.

Breedon opens new £2.2mn asphalt plant near Inverness, Scotland

Fergus Ewing MSP, Scotland’s Minister for Business, Energy and Tourism, has opened a new asphalt plant at Daviot quarry near Inverness, Scotland, which represents a £2.2 million investment in the area by Breedon Aggregates, Scotland’s leading independent building materials company.

Breedon’s new state-of-the-art Marini plant will be capable of producing up to 180tonnes of asphalt per hour, substantially more than the previous plant on the site, and it also has a significantly larger hot storage facility

New Sennebogen approach to dolomite extraction

In the Bavarian town of Lauterhofen, southern Germany, Hermann Trollius has been processing limestone and dolomite for three generations. Aside from traditional marketing, the company is now taking unconventional approaches. In order to conserve resources efficiently, Trollius is now for the first time making use of the leftovers of washing crushed dolomite. Using a Sennebogen material handler, the viscous mass is pumped out and then output as fertiliser.

Cemex-backed quarry conservation project takes flight at Southam Quarry

Not everyone would be happy to come across a Dingy Footman on a dark night, but in a recent survey of moths by Butterfly Conservation at Southam Quarry, in county Warwickshire, UK, a lepidopterist was delighted to see one.

This moth and, more importantly, the Pammene Suspectana are just two of 120 species surveyed at the site, making Southam Quarry one of the most important sites in the Midlands for both moths and butterflies.
