Lafarge carried out the installation in collaboration with Efficiency Manitoba as part of its commitment to reduce climate-warming emissions.
Tina Larson, vice president of Manitoba & Saskatchewan, says: “As we work towards becoming a net-zero company by 2030, this is a key step in our journey and confirms Lafarge Canada’s long-standing commitment to sustainable development. The support of our government makes this a streamlined process.”
Dirk Hantscher, industrial systems engineer at Efficiency Manitoba, says: “We have worked together to identify and implement a variety of projects that reduce energy and save money.”
Lafarge points out that it has continued to demonstrate the importance of reducing energy consumption through the consistent integration of energy-efficient technology. It received $395,689 from Efficiency Manitoba for their Manitoba operations, $216,499 specifically at Dawson Road.
According to Lafarge, the kWh and m3 reduction from the upgrades at Dawson Road equate to saving approximately 726 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) - the equivalent of taking 158 cars off the road.
Lafarge’s upgrades also translate into an increase in production, supporting employees and families that live and work in the greater Winnipeg area.
