Following the launch and integration of its surface mining solution in February 2012, which has already led to deals for six Cat 6030 mining hydraulic excavators, 3006 Finning is officially launching its underground mining solution.

Having spent months on integration planning including engineer training, following the 395 Caterpillar acquisition of Bucyrus in 2011, Finning is rolling out the underground mining solution.

By extending its dealer coverage to incorporate the whole of the UK and Ireland to support all new Caterpillar and historic Bucyrus underground mining equipment, already operated in the regions, Finning will now offer the most comprehensive mining range available in the industry.

The new Finning Caterpillar underground range includes continuous miners, conveyors, shearers, ploughs, armoured face conveyors, hydraulic roof supports and drill rigs.

Commenting on the move into underground mining, Gary Agnew, director, equipment solutions, Finning UK and Ireland said: “When we acquired the dealership for the new Caterpillar mining range in January 2012, we initially focused resources on developing our engineering expertise to support the new surface mining equipment.

“With two Cat 6030 shovels already built and operating successfully in the UK, we have proven we can service the demand for surface mining solutions.

“Following significant investment in underground mining training, tooling and parts, we are now in a position to support existing products and the rollout of new Caterpillar products into the UK. Our clear aim is to deliver equipment and service solutions that maximise customer uptime and output from existing equipment and any future Cat underground mining product investments.”

The extended Finning mining team will be supported by Caterpillar mining colleagues from across the globe, sharing expertise, knowledge and solutions across the new and existing product range.

John Vardy, general manager mining at Finning explained: “This is a great opportunity to bring in our full Caterpillar dealer support capability for underground equipment sales, service and parts support to new and established customers.

Working with these customers who mine coal, gypsum, rock salt, polyhalite, gold, lead and zinc is an exciting challenge.”
