Harringtons Builders PLC of Wembley, Middlesex, England continues to build its fleet of 473 Volvo excavators with the addition of another 14tonne EC140E.

The latest arrival joins five existing EC140D models and two EC220Ds which are less than three years old, as well as an EC140E purchased just last year. Yet Harrington Builders PLC is no stranger to owning and operating Volvo excavators. “We used to run the B and C versions going back ten years or so and found them to be very reliable and liked by our operators,” said managing director Tony Harrington. “The latest machines are equally impressive too and are still appreciated by our operators in terms of driver comfort and smooth operation besides their digging and lifting performance.”

The new EC140E is powered by four cylinder Stage IV compliant Volvo engine offering the latest in engine technology and operating sophistication. For example pump flow is controlled for combined digging and swinging operations to reduce the flow loss through the overload relief valves, whilst maintaining digging power and maximum swing torque. When Eco mode is selected the machine provides better fuel efficiency without loss of performance in most operating conditions.

The EC140E’s Volvo Care Cab offers a large roomy interior with plenty of leg room and foot space. Its excellent all round visibility is enhanced by pressurised and filtered cab air appreciated by our operators in terms of driver comfort and smooth operation besides their digging and lifting performance.”

The EC140E is the optimal tool for much of the typical contracts undertaken by Harringtons Builders PLC in terms of its size for transporting and its digging geometry. For instance the machine boasts a generous forward reach of 8.85 metres, a dig depth of just over 6 metres and a practical load over height of 6.3 metres when equipped with the standard 3 metre dipper arm. The machine also demonstrates excellent stability across carriage with a lifting capacity of 1860kg at full reach and at 1.5 metres above ground level.

Harringtons Builders is celebrating 50 years of trading since it was originally founded by Mr. C F Harrington in 1966 and subsequently registered as a Private Limited Company in November 1967.
