439 Liebherr Great Britain has acquired new six-hectare site adjoining the company’s existing 3.6-hectare headquarters in Biggleswade, county Bedfordshire, England.

Development plans for the expanded facility are still being finalised, but it is expected to include a new pre-delivery inspection centre and other functions, to support the UK business.

“This expansion will ensure we continue to have adequate resources and capacity to support our customers and the continued growth of Liebherr in the UK,” says Lee Palmer, managing director of Liebherr Great Britain.

“Vitally, it will also enable us to create even more skilled employment opportunities for the local community and across the country.”

The news follows the recent announcement that Liebherr will be investing €28.4 million in expanding the factory in Germany that manufactures its material handling machines.

Last year Liebherr says it accounted for approximately 50% of the machines sold into the UK waste and recycling market.

Recently Liebherr Group said it expects 2018 to bring “appreciable gains” in its equipment sales to mining, earthmoving and concrete technology customers and growth in its construction machinery sales after posting record annual turnover last year, with total sales of €9.845 billion.
