Powerful and economic: The Liebherr A 924 Litronic wheeled excavator

439 Liebherr will have a host of quarrying and mining machines on show on its stand and in the demonstration area at 465 steinexpo 2017, the International Demonstration Show for the Construction Materials Industry, taking place 30 August to 2 September in Homberg/Nieder-Ofleiden, Germany.

The stage IV/tier 4 final A 924 Litronic wheeled excavator has a 21.5-26.5tonne operating weight and an engine power of 140kW. The also on show A 924 Heavy Lift Litronic is the largest in series production wheeled excavator built by Liebherr. The wheeled excavator has an operating weight from 26.5-28tonnes and an engine power of 160kW. The machine going on display at the showpiece exhibition has a 2750mm wide undercarriage with dozer blade at the rear and has a heavy counterweight which allows higher lift capacities. The equipment includes a 5.8m long adjustable boom with central lubrication and a 2.65m dipper arm with the Liebherr SWA 48 quick coupler system with LIKUFIX, as well as a SG 30B stone tongs with a capacity of 0.85m³. The PowerLift option also included in the configuration ensures higher lift capacities in the immediate vicinity of the machine and thus increased productivity.

The steinexpo 2017-bound SG 30B stone tongs are a special version of the sorter grab for the safe and efficient movement of large stones and blocks of stones. Here Liebherr also uses a very high proportion of components produced in-house. The large slewing ring and the massive hydraulic cylinder, as well as the inner hydraulic lines for attachment with LIKUFIX, ensure a longer service life of the tool attachment/implement. The buckets are secured to the mounting with Passfix bolts. The sealed and play-free bearings guarantee high reliability.

Liebherr will also showcase at steinexpo 2017 the L 580 XPower wheeled loader. XPower is an integrated, innovative machine concept for the German manufacturer’s large wheeled loaders, said to set new standards in terms of fuel efficiency, robustness, and comfort.

Liebherr invested in the stability of the new large wheeled loaders in order to prepare them for the tough conditions in the quarrying and mining industries. The power-split XPower travel drive stands for robustness as the power is delivered by the interaction of two drive paths. The load is distributed to two drive paths and the components have a significantly longer service life.

Furthermore, each XPower wheeled loader has stronger axles compared to the predecessor generation. In some cases even the axles of the next model up. Besides the axles, Liebherr has strengthened other core components such as the hydraulic cylinder. This way Liebherr guarantees the consistently high performance and reliability of the XPower wheeled loader.

The R 980 SME crawler excavator, also due to be exhibited at steinexpo 2017, is ideal for heavy-duty applications and high loads in quarrying or earthmoving. The reinforced undercarriage ensures maximum robustness and longer durability of the machine, among other things. The R 980 SME is the largest crawler excavator developed and produced by Liebherr-France SAS in Colmar. It is equipped with the undercarriage of the next model up, the mining excavator R 9100. The cast version of the sprocket wheel with twin gearing, as well as the double carrier rollers, increase the resistance of the undercarriage, thus making the machine very reliable in use. The two angled bars of the track pads ensure excellent manoeuvrability of the crawler excavator with superb robustness, also on rough terrain.

As part of the upgrade of the entire Liebherr crawler excavator range in 2016, the R 980 SME was equipped with a new engine which now delivers a power output of 420 kW. Thanks to the new engine with Liebherr SCR technology (selective catalytic reduction), the crawler excavator conforms to exhaust emissions stage IV / tier 4 final and without having a diesel particulate filter installed. As a result, both the maintenance time and maintenance costs are reduced for the customer.
