Premium Megastructures Inc. (PMI) is one of the Philippines' largest and leading construction companies. With a focus on advanced technology and fast-paced, efficient solutions, the company covers all aspects of infrastructure development, from aggregate supply and earthworks to airport, road and bridge construction.
Since 2017, PMI has invested in almost 50 machines from Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE), which it has put to work in quarries and government construction projects across the country.
The PMI fleet includes 14 Volvo EC480D crawler excavators, six EW145B Prime wheeled excavators and 10 SD110B soil compactors. The firm also has 15 L956F wheeled loaders from SDLG, 70% owned by Volvo CE.
"We run machines from several different brands, but we prefer Volvo because of the low total cost of ownership. We get high machine availability and low fuel consumption, and the aftersales support is great," says Jessie Borinaga, motorpool manager at PMI.
"Our local Volvo dealer Civic Merchandising helps us a lot with our operations to save fuel, and they give us parts discounts. Moreover, if our equipment ever encounters any trouble, the Civic technicians automatically come to our sites for their repair and maintenance," explains Isaac Manto, motorpool supervisor at PMI.
"Damage to bucket teeth, for example, is common given the tough nature of our operations, but they are easily and affordably replaced. Civic keeps stock ready and gives us a good discount on our end," he continues.
Given that the machines are working between eight and 14 hours a day, it is important that the operators like them.
"Our operators like the smooth handling and quick machine response, as well as the automatic idle in standby mode. The cabs provide a safe and comfortable environment for operators to work productively and efficiently throughout their shift," Borinaga adds.
"Overall, using Volvo machines helps us a lot to be productive and save money," he concludes.
