Being introduced in Spain and other European markets during 2021, type II 52.5 R is said to be the only grey cement with early strength performance and lower CO₂ emissions. The new product has been tailored to provide superior performance to the precast and infrastructure segment by providing early strengths like a cement type I, but around 20% lower CO₂ direct emissions.
This innovative cement is part of CEMEX's Future in Action climate strategy, aiming to achieve a 55% reduction in CO₂ emissions by 2030. CEMEX was the first company in the sector to announce its commitment to reduce CO₂ emissions by at least 55% in its operations in Europe by 2030, aligned with the commitment of the European Union. Before this commitment, CEMEX had already achieved a close to 35% emissions reduction by 2020.
Headquartered in Monterrey, Mexico, CEMEX is a provider of materials and construction solutions and is committed to helping contribute to more sustainable construction. It continually develops innovative products which, both during manufacturing and in use, contain significantly lower embodied CO₂ compared to traditional materials. It has designed a range of low-carbon products under the Vertua umbrella, which helps build a better future with lower CO₂. Further proof of this is CEMEX's commitment to producing zero-carbon concrete globally by 2050.
