When completed in 2012, the complex complex bridge mega-structure will not only be the highest bridge in North America but the highest cable-stayed bridge in the world surpassing even the magnificent Millau Viaduct in France.
The bridge is 390m high and is said to have the longest free-standing span in the world at 520m.
The double suspension bridge has 152 high-resistance steel cables and will allow the crossing over the steep banks and precipices known as the Devil's Backbone. It accommodates four lanes and allows an average passage of 2,000 vehicles a day.
