Key data includes:
- Recycled and secondary materials accounted for 29% of the GB aggregates market.
- Carbon dioxide emissions per tonne of cement production fell by 2%. CO2 emissions increased for aggregates and asphalt production and declined for ready mixed concrete.
- MPA recorded the creation of 6,000 hectares of priority habitat to date with a further 8,700 hectares of priority habitat creation planned.
- Around 30 million tonnes of aggregates were delivered by rail and water transport.
- The average road delivery distance for aggregates was 30.1 miles.

The reporting process is now evolving to reflect the seven strategic priorities set out in the MPA Charter and as part of this process we will be working to further improve the quality and coverage of our sustainability data.
“We believe that the activities of our industry, from extraction to manufacturing to recycling and land restoration, are consistent with the movement towards a more circular economy. We appreciate that we need to provide data and information both to inform and help improve industry performance and to work meaningfully with our stakeholders and will continue to do so.”
