Spanish concrete demand falls

Spain’s concrete producers association Anefhop has reported that demand fell by 20% in 2010, compared to the previous 12 months, to 31million cubic metres. The association said that demand was now 60% lower than before the start of the financial crisis.

Balearics feel the pinch

Prepared concrete production was down 42% in the Balearics region of Spain in 2009, with the economic crisis being the main reason given for the drop. Production came to around 829,000m³, according to sector association Anhefhop. In comparison, Spain as a whole saw production drop 28.9% to 48.94 million m³, while turnover came to some €2.80billion. Spanish aggregate demand down

Demand for aggregates in Spain was down 14.6% in 2010 on the previous year at 207million tonnes, according to Spanish aggregates association, ANEFA. Demand fell back to levels last seen in 1992 from a high in 2006 of 485million tonnes due to the economic crisis. ANEFA reported that the 57.2% drop since 2006 has resulted in 6000 job losses in the industry.
