Michelin has announced the launch of the new XDR2 tyre for rigid dump trucks and the company claims that the tyres offer significant improvements. "The XDR tire is the benchmark on haul trucks in quarries around the world, and has been for many years. This XDR2 tyre builds on that foundation to deliver even more productivity, better performance and unquestioned value, all leading to a lower total cost of tyre operation," said Michelin Earthmover Tyres president Luc Minguet.

The new XDR2 tyre adds 20% more tread life
449 Michelin has announced the launch of the new XDR2 tyre for rigid dump trucks and the company claims that the tyres offer significant improvements. "The XDR tire is the benchmark on haul trucks in quarries around the world, and has been for many years. This XDR2 tyre builds on that foundation to deliver even more productivity, better performance and unquestioned value, all leading to a lower total cost of tyre operation," said Michelin 1944 Earthmover Tyres president Luc Minguet.
The new XDR2 is said to offer 20% more tread life than the previous model through use of a 10% thicker undertread between the protective plies and tread base for better cut and impact resistance. With a new self-cleaning tread pattern, the new tyre combines full-depth blocks, a 13% larger central lug and the new non-directional design to provide increased protection against aggressions and cut separations. The evolving tread design provides an increased contact patch as the tire wears, while sculptured cooling vents help keep running temperatures low.
Michelin has said that the new tyre underwent over 2million hours of real-world testing in Spain before it was launched. It is initially available in 27R49 size but other sizes will be available later in the year.
