3607 Astec has introduced The Source hand-held diagnostic tool that simulates most of the electrical signals coming into an asphalt plant control system.

The company says The Source simplifies plant set-up and troubleshooting by providing the user with the ability to simulate components without the need to waste material.

Functions include settings to simulate a weighbridge signal; emulate a MBU (manual backup unit) and it also controls the speed of a variable speed drive.

Other settings simulate the inputs from a tachometer or encoders, providing a tach connector that will simulate an AC pump or a feeder, while other output signals from the diagnostic tool are said to be handy for any current output field device. It provides control signals that simulate heat controllers, current transformers, action packs and any other current sources. It will also alert the user if that current circuit is open, simplifying 4–20 milliamps control problems.

Astec says The Source is available for sale through the Astec Parts Department.
