The company is calling on suppliers and partners to develop and share ideas that contribute to a reduction in emissions.
The focus for the 2020 challenge is on ideas which support the continued drive to reduce carbon across the industry, following the UK becoming the first major economy to commit to achieving a net-zero society by 2050.
Tarmac says that this legislative commitment requires action from public and private organisations to allow for the development of a greener, cleaner society - the built environment will be key in meeting the challenge.
The company conducted its inaugural Innovation Challenge in 2018, which generated over 200 new ideas that drew on the knowledge and experience of a variety of experts throughout the company's supply-chain.
Jeremy Greenwood, MD national commercial and construction solutions at Tarmac, said: “We firmly believe in supporting the development of a low carbon, resilient built environment fit for the future and recognise that collaborative working will be key meeting the collective challenge our industry faces.”
Responses to the Innovation Challenge must be submitted by 21 February 2020 via an online portal hosted by Leading Edge Only (LEO), a global innovation platform connecting businesses, universities and creative thinkers around the world with relevant technologies and expertise.
Once the closing date has passed, all entries will be reviewed by Tarmac who will then invite submitters of the best ideas to join the 2020 Innovation Forum on 26 March. Finalists will be invited to present to a panel of senior business leaders who will select the winning idea. The winner will gain the opportunity to work in partnership with Tarmac with the option of seed capital to bring the idea to life.
