ACI committee to address challenges and opportunities of 3D printing

September 20, 2018

The American Concrete Institute (ACI) has formed a committee in a bid to bring stakeholders together to discuss the challenges and opportunities surrounding 3D printing.

The institute says the ACI ACI Committee 564 Printing with Cementitious Materials will develop and report information on 3D printing and additive manufacturing with inorganic cementitious materials. The group will also seek to develop publications relating to additive manufacturing with cement-based materials.

Additionally, ACI Committee 564 will collaborate with other ACI committees to disseminate additive manufacturing information and to determine how additive manufacturing could be integrated into the concrete community. It will also work with technical organisations to encourage discussions on the challenges which prevent the adoption of additive manufacturing.

According to the ACI, the committee will develop guidelines to evaluate materials and technology for additive manufacturing.

ACI Committee 564 will meet at the Concrete Convention and Exposition in Las Vegas on 15 October. It will also host a webinar through ACI Unversity on developing 3D printing in concrete construction on 13 November.
