The American Concrete Institute (ACI) and American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC) are now both part of the ACI Committee 310, Decorative Concrete. Both companies intend to develop and report information on the application of artistic finishes of cast-in-place, avoid duplication of effort and accelerate document development.
Additionally, the partnership is said to offer greater prospects of funds for research and experimentation and a wider acceptance of results.
Ronald G. Burg, P.E., ACI’s executive vice president, said: “By working together, our organizations are better positioned to provide additional resources to serve the needs of the decorative concrete industry.”
Beverly Garnant, ASCC’s executive director, said: “The ability to collaborate with the American Concrete Institute on publications and educational programming relative to decorative concrete is a fantastic opportunity for ASCC and the Decorative Concrete Council.”
ACI programs the Decorative Concrete Flatwork Finisher and the Decorative Concrete Flatwork Technician will launch before Summer 2018. Both certifications require a written exam to be completed as well as current certifications as a concrete flatwork technician. ASCC will be offering the certification exams at their Annual Conference in Charlotte, NC, between 20-23 September 2018.
