ACI studies compressive strength of Fly Ash Geopolymer Concrete

May 22, 2018

The American Concrete Institute (ACI) has released an article titled Effect of Curing Condition on Compressive Strength of Fly Ash Geopolymer Concrete.

The paper, written by Hongen Zhang, Xiaoshuang Shi, and Qingyuan Wang, investigated: “compressive strength values were measured at different curing times (three, seven, 14, 28, and 56 days). The value of the room-high temperature and standard curing (0RHSC) series is higher than that of the high temperature and standard curing (0HSC) series. The percentage of compressive strength enhancement of the 0HSC series is higher than that of the high temperature and wet curing (HWC) series.”

The results showed: “curing for one day at room temperature followed by a high curing temperature will be helpful for specimens to gain higher strength than those directly cured at the high temperature and wet curing condition would limit the development of compressive strength.”

ACI added: “the compressive strength of the 5HWC series is higher than that of the HSC series but lower than that of the 5HSC series, which indicates that cement will weaken the negative effect of wet curing but will not eliminate it.”
