CarbonCure (CC) has been nominated one of the ten finalists in the global $20m Nrg Cosia Carbon XPrize. The event challenges competitors to turn C02 emissions into products with the intention of identifying the most scalable technologies to unlock economic opportunities.
These finalists each receive $500,000 and will move on to the final round of the competition to demonstrate their technology over a two-year period. Canada has four teams taking part while three of the finalists come from the United States. The remaining teams are finalists from India, China and the United Kingdom. One grand prize winner from each track will be confirmed in March 2020 and will be awarded $7.5m in prize money.
Jennifer Wagner, CC’s executive vice president leads the company’s XPrize team. It consists of leaders across the value chain, including cement and concrete producer Cementos Argos S.A., concrete producers Thomas Concrete and Burnco Rock Products, industrial gas company Praxair. Additionally, it features carbon capture innovator Sustainable Energy Solutions, engineering specialists Kline Consulting, as well as many members of the design and construction community such as LS3P Architects, Uzun + Case Structural Engineering and Walter P. Moore Structural Engineers.
