Catalina Pacific's ‘near zero-emission' concrete mixer trucks have been ranked as among the US’ Top 25 Green Fleets for 2018 by Heavy Duty Trucks (HDT).
Catalina Pacific, a CalPortland company, launched its compressed natural gas (CNG) / renewable natural gas (RNG) powered trucks in the fourth quarter of 2017.
Allen Hamblen, president/CEO of CalPortland, says Catalina Pacific’s transition to these trucks contributes to the attainment of greenhouse gas and nitrogen dioxide reduction goals set by the California Legislature, the California Air Resources Board, and other regional and local agencies.
“By selecting engines fuelled by natural gas over diesel, Catalina Pacific continues to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to the environment, community, and the safety of our employees,” Hamblen adds.
The fleet refuels at the company’s CNG/RNG stations utilising Redeem by Clean Energy, a renewable natural gas (RNG) fuel made by organic waste. The fuel is derived from biogenic methane that is naturally generated by the decomposition of organic waste at landfills and agricultural waste sources. Catalina Pacific is building privately owned fuelling stations at two plant locations.
In the HDT November 2018 journal, HDT indicates they look for long-term dedication to sustainability but also pay attention to new initiatives to include in their Top 25 Green Fleet class. The company also looks for companies which promote fuel efficiencies, alternative fuels while testing new technologies.
