In an interesting move in Germany, Cemex is supplying radiation protective concrete to serve as a shield for the radiotherapy facilities of the new National Center for Tumor Diseases building at the Dresden University Hospital, in Eastern Germany.
The project, according to Andreas Hohenegger, regional manager ready-mix Northeast Cemex, Germany, reaffirms the company’s commitment to deliver a superior customer experience.
Cemex developed a special concrete mix with radiation-absorbing aggregates to increase its protective effect and to help ensure that the high-energy rays are only directed to the designated therapy area. The company’s technologists worked on the construction site to monitor the pouring of the mix, which involved switching from a conventional mixer truck to a tower system to facilitate installation.
In total, Cemex is delivering 4,000 cubic meters of structural concrete and supply approximately 150 cubic metres of radiation protective concrete.
