Bailey Port has proposed a rock quarry in Calvert City which is facing opposition from local residents. According to a report by WPSD Local 6: "One of the biggest concerns people have is blasting that could be done to create the quarry. Bailey Port manager Robby Roberts says the company would only perform one blast a week."
The quarry operation, according to Roberts, will be far enough away from homes in the area.
“The city’s own consultants confirmed that we’re going to be less than a percent of the allowed legal limit at the houses,” he adds.
In the report, James Bailey, the company's owner, says Bailey Port has taken all the steps to comply with the state and city to legally operate the quarry.
The firm's representatives will answer further questions at the next meeting on 28 June.
