Farm River Rock, a shoreline rock quarry in East Haven, Connecticut, has filed a $30 million lawsuit against the town of East Haven after alleging it was illegally shut down in May.
This latest move comes on the back of previous legal action in May: the quarry filed an initial $25m lawsuit against East Haven local officials including the mayor.
The website Zip06 reported that attorney Peter Alter, who represents Farm River Rock, said that “the behavior of the mayor and these other three town officials was so egregious that it merited its own action, but the town must also bear responsibility for the illegal actions of its officials”.
Town attorney Joseph Zullo said that the lawsuit “is largely a recitation of the same claims alleged in a companion suit filed a few weeks ago”.
The rock quarry has been around for 70 years, but in May the owner said that he was handed a cease and desist order. Since 2013 and up until now, the town has granted 37 blasting permits, but in May the owner said the quarry was denied and shut down.
