HeidelbergCement maps out new sustainability commitments 2030

HeidelbergCement (HC) has renewed its commitment to corporate social and environmental responsibility by focusing on six key targets which it aims to achieve by 2030.

 
These areas include driving economic strength and innovation; achieving excellence in occupational health and safety; reducing their environmental footprint; enabling the circular economy; being a good neighbor; ensuring compliance and; creating transparency.

 
HC is planning to reduce CO2 emissions by 30% to help reach the global 2 °C target. In addition, 80% of the research and development budget is to be used for the development of sustainable products as a means of continuously promote innovation. To facilitate the circular economy, by-products or recycled materials are increasingly being substituted for natural raw materials. Occupational health and safety are also central included to help reach the goal of a reducing the number of lost-time accidents to zero.

 
Dr. Bernd Scheifele, chairman of the HeidelbergCement managing board said, “Our goal is to grow in harmony with the environment and society. The Sustainability Commitments 2030 challenge us to find new solutions and think differently to make our business even more sustainable. That is what we need to ensure our corporate success over the long-term.”

 

The new commitments replace the existing Sustainability Ambitions 2020.
