House votes to overturn OSHA recordkeeping rule

March 3, 2017

The House on March 1 approved HJ Res 83, legislation that would overturn the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) recordkeeping rule known as the Volks rule.

Sen Bill Cassidy (R-La) has introduced a companion bill in the Senate. He said the rule would subject millions of small businesses to citations for paperwork violations, while doing nothing to improve worker health and safety.

The rule attempts to extend to five years the explicit six-month statute of limitations on recordkeeping paperwork violations in the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970.
