John S. Lane and Son, an Amherst-based sand and gravel company, has agreed to a settlement with the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and has taken steps to reduce air emissions under the Clean Air Act. A report by Mass Live, says: “The company had also paid a penalty of $93,500, according to EPA officials.”
A quarry inspection in 2016 revealed two types of air emissions at the facility that failed to comply with federal air pollution standards.
The company has agreed to reduce its levels of carbon monoxide and particulate matter, the report adds.
Alexandra Dunn, EPA New England regional administrator, says: "EPA is committed to ensuring compliance with environmental statutes. We appreciate that this company worked cooperatively and quickly to correct the issues raised during this case."
