Liebherr to invest $45m in Newport News facility expansion

March 27, 2018

Liebherr has invested $45m in the expansion of its Newport News, Virginia, facility with work expected to commence in July 2018. The project, according to Torben Reher, managing director of Liebherr USA, further strengthens the company's position in North America to deliver sustainable long-term growth and offers a consistent experience to customers across the United States.

The scheme will include the construction of three buildings on 28 acres to the company’s current manufacturing facility. They will cover over 251,000 square feet and will offer space for Liebherr USA’s new headquarters and administrative building, a production and workshop facility, and a warehouse and distribution building. The project is scheduled to be completed by Summer of 2020.

Florence G. Kingston, director of Newport News department of development: “The City and the Economic Development Authority are proud to be partners in Liebherr’s continued growth in Newport News. Liebherr’s $45 million expansion is especially important as we work to diversify the local economy and grow the advanced manufacturing industry in our city. We look forward to growing our partnership and working jointly to ensure Liebherr’s long-term success in Newport News.”

McKinley Price, mayor of Newport News, VA: “I am excited that Liebherr has chosen to again expand and grow its Newport News facility. Employing over 400 people, Liebherr is an important industrial employer and has been a committed corporate citizen during its 48-year tenure in Newport News.
