The National, Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) is to provide presentations on critical legal issues confronting stone, sand and gravel producers at its annual symposium on 13 February 2019.
The event will take place during the association's annual convention and AGG1 Academy & Expo in Indianapolis.
NSSGA says legal professionals will equip attendees with best practices on enhancing safety, mitigating risk and protecting the rights of operators.
Avi Meyerstein of Husch Blackwell will cover major aspects of near-miss and accident investigations, how these efforts can create liability and strategies to consider for managing these risks.
Thomas Herman of Eversheds-Sutherland will address legal issues related to post-depletion uses of quarries. His presentation will also cover critical issues related to active quarrying facilities located near other operations, such as agriculture or timber.
Arthur Wolfson of Jackson-Kelly will provide an insight into the regulatory agenda and policy initiatives of the US Department of Labor, Office of the Solicitor. His presentation will explore high impact MSHA appellate cases litigated during the Trump administration and will pay attention to the litigating position taken by the government.
Brian Montag of K&L Gates will explain what managers need to know to make effective decisions on environmental, insurance and employment issues that face aggregates operations.
Adele Abrams, president and owner of The Law Office of Adele Abrams, will cover the basics of what constitutes illegal workplace harassment under various civil rights laws, in light of the #MeToo movement, workplace harassment is under increasing scrutiny.
David Landin of Hunton Andrews Kurth will give a presentation on the potential impact of this pending litigation on acquisitions, stock values and bottom lines.
