The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association celebrated 25 years of the Young Leaders Annual Meeting at Wild Horse Pass in Chandler, Ariz.
Joel Galassini received the Mark S Walsh award, sponsored by Rock Products. Walsh was a member of the Young Leaders steering committee and helped set the direction and growth of the group before he passed away in 1999. The award is presented annually to a member of the group who exemplifies professionalism and enthusiasm for Young Leaders.
“This is an incredible group, and the relationships that you can make here can last throughout your career,” he said.
Attendees took advantage of quality networking time in addition to group activities, including a tour of Gila River Sand & Gravel and a community service project. The group built up a community farm at the nearby Native American reservation in Sacaton.
Industry magnates inclusding William J Sandbrook, chief executive, US Concrete, J Thomas Hill, chief executive, Vulcan Materials Company and Anne H Lloyd, chief financial officer, Martin Marietta imparted leadership advice to a record crowd of more than 200 people.
Rep David Schweikert, R-Ariz, also spoke to the group about Congress’ legislative agenda for the year.
